Talk about your birthday beer! I started with an African spicy mead, which was good but not as good as I had remembered it. Ed started with Silver City Whoop Ass. A bright and hoppy beer, designed for the “IPA lover”, Silver City Whoop Ass Double IPA was a great choice for a delicious summer brew. They [...]

When I think of sweet succulent seafood, it’s not a brew pub that comes to mind. Maybe fish and chips at a pub, but plump mussels in a superbly seasoned golden Thai broth? Not your typical brew food, but then again Elliot Bay Brewery is not your typical brew pub.
We decided to stop in for [...]

I wish this neighborhood bar was in MY neighborhood!
Uber is a tiny bar in Greenwood, basically a couch, a fire pit and a couple of small tables. But what it lacks in roominess, it more than makes up for in beer. They serve over 150 different bottled beers and keep about 25 on tap. We [...]

You have to be REALLY determined to find Baron’s Brewery but I am glad that we did. Tucked away in a commercial/warehouse building, deep within the industrial complex, finding Baron’s brewery is not for the faint of heart. To be honest, if we weren’t committed to meeting someone there for this WABL event, we would [...]

Ed’s favorite Chardonnay is 2006 Ken Wright Cellars Chardonnay, Celilio Vineyard so when it came time to celebrate a birthday, new job and new kitchen with friends I had to include it in the menu. This Oregon chardonnay has just the right balance of oak and butter to make it an ideal accompaniment to food. These [...]

Today, the Washington State legislature approved a 12 month pilot program to allow limited beer and wine tasting in select grocery stores. ESB 5751 - 2007-08 passed the house on Friday and was approved by the senate today. It will need to be signed by Govenor Christine Gregoire before the pilot program can be implemented. [...]

We usually look forward to the monthly Washington Beer Lovers (WABL) events. We get to drink beer at great prices, meet the brewers and have lively conversation. Yesterday the March event at Pyramid Ale did not disappoint on the great prices. WABL members got two of their speciality brews for FREE! The two specials was [...]

Bill Jenkins, brewer extraordinaire, offered an impromptu Washington Beer Lovers (WABL) event at the Big Time Brewery on 2/26/08. We got there a bit early and boy were we glad that we did because it didn’t take long for the line to form and it lasted as long as we were there. They offered two [...]

Every once in awhile you find a treasure at your local grocery store. Ed was looking for Barleywine but found de Boomgard Tropicale Belgian Beer with Spices and Mango Juice instead. I usually equate fruit beers with the summer time but this was a special treat even in the middle of winter. The mango here [...]

Every now and again I come across a blog that blows me away. Champagne of Blogs is definitely one of the most sophisticated and elegant beer blogs around. I mean elegant in a good way in that it is well thought out, has great info and makes me thirsty. This blog is the creation of the [...]
